Getting High In Colorado

Postby d2reid » Thu Aug 04, 2016 8:44 pm

We are currently in Estes Park, CO. On the edge of the Rocky Mountain National Park. One of our post retirement hobbies is technical rock climbing. So here are couple of pictures of us climbing Prospect Mountain.

Barbara is on top..

Dallas,

GREAT hobby! I would have loved it. Heights on natural objects (like mountains) don't bother me at all. I've been an arm chair mountaineer for many years. Read everything there is about the big peak climbs in the Himalayas. I've "conquered" Mount Crested Butte three times. Mostly a steep trail and a boulder scramble, but pretty exposed during some of it. I've always wanted to do the trek to Everest Base Camp. But now old age has worked its magic (bad back), I never will. Glad to see you and your wife having fun with the rocks!

Karen, you and Barbara must be alike. I on the other hand will always be cautious around cliffs. Notice Kevin and Barbara's ecstatic expressions after summiting a hard (for us) climb. The grumpy face on the right is me. I struggled on this one. But I support her whole heartedly in the sport that loves just as she supports me in the sports I enjoy most but scare her a little.

Skip it's only a matter of time before we will no longer be able to do stuff like this. That's why we keep pushing the ACTIVE button. I plan becoming a football and Nascar fan when I get old. I will even buy satellite tv. Till then you will find us hiking, climbing, motor cycle riding, bicycling, white water rafting, skiing, and sitting around a campfire.

I have done water skiing and snow skiing, but that was nearly 40 years ago! I don't like heights, so that leaves me campfire sitting, as well! :D

BTW, I did go on a zip line about 3 years ago! Scared me, but I had fun anyway! :D
