By-pass manifold

Postby dare723 » Thu Feb 18, 2010 3:41 pm

I probably should have posted this in my earlier frozen filter problem as it is another outcome. First thanks to all of you that helped. I found a local mobile RV guy that has a good reputation and he will be repairing the leak. So, moving on. Our CC has a by-pass manifold. We did not get any explanation of the settings, only this diagram. The system has worked fine however I need to understand it. I tweaked the valves during the leak and NOW can't remember where they should be set for RVing and then set again for winter. Nothing in my handy owners manual which is generic for CC's. Is the diagram below where it should be set in Winter or when we are RV'ing? #-o #-o #-o

Sometimes I feel so dumb.

Thanks folks,

Walt

When you unwinterize (summerize?) here is the way to set the valves (I think): Hot water shut-off valve: open. Cold water shut off valve: open. Water heater by-pass valve: closed (If you leave it open, you will get premixed hot and cold water at the hot water spigot--don't ask me how I know). Fresh tank shut-off valve: open. Antifreeze shut-off valve: closed.

That's the way I set mine up when I broke it out for the Christmas trip.

Pete,

Thank you! I figured it out I think. My leak was where the cold water entered the heater. I shut OFF the water to the heater as you said, the leak stopped and I was able to check for other leaks, none found, water pump did not cycle after 2 hours so, maybe a good sign.
Connie questioned my having a "pro" fix the tiny leak. It really is right in front of my nose! #-o

But, my luck is like this:

Shut off the supply to the heater. Cool! Turned on water pump, water everywhere! I did not put the water filter back on. Realized that. Shut it off and jumped inside the storage bay with towels! Hit my head and ear on the over hang. I have a blood blister on my right ear and a headache now. #-o #-o #-o

I did survive checking the battery fluid levels. Found both positive wing nuts loose and black plastic grounds all over the batteries where the factory drilled holes in the covers for the wires and vent hoses to come out. The levels were right where they should be and my experience with water says leave it alone.

Just another RV prep day. I am learning slowly.

Almost one year now as member and we thank all of you for your help, and fellowship at the one tiny rally we attended. =D> =D> =D>

Just want to hook up and go!

Walt, my motto is "If I don't leave blood on it I didn't get it fixed..." Or something like that. My DW kids me about the number of holes I get in my clothes and my hide when I work on things.

Found both positive wing nuts loose

One of the first things I do with post type batteries is replace those wing nuts with plastic filled lock nuts. This prevents the nuts from coming loose, which in turn does bad things to the electronics, not to mention the batteries don't charge correctly.

Wing nuts? I guess Enchantment RV did something right when they delivered my creek several years ago -- they replaced all the battery nuts with regular nut and bolts... Nationwide (KC) was telling me that was wrong but they didn't change them out!! =D>

Walt - I hope your snow is melting some what there -- I know the CA got a lot more rain down south but didn't really pay attention to it too much -- figured we'd get it all as white stuff about 3 to 4 days later and we did....

Postby Pasadena Gil & Deb » Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:41 pm

Hey everybody...Deb and I just joined the Club and already I've got a question..Figure it MUST have something to do with the new "by-pass" valves:
HOW DO I FILL THE FRESH WATER TANK ON THE NEW Cedar Creek. Old (2009) brochure shows the normal Tank Fill cap, with vent, inside the Common Hook-up Station ( like what was on the outside of our Rockwood T/T's) , but our does not have ANY such fill- anywhere and this item is not covered in the Owners Manual. I'm guessing the Tank is filled by switching the "Gravity" / "City" valve in some manner, but I thought it would be a good way to say Hi . ( but hopefully not seem too stupid). My Dad always said the the only stupid question was the one I didn't ask. Everything else looks to be pretty straight forward.
Thanks for any help

100% absolutely correct, no such thing as a stupid question. I ask a lot of questions. Unfortunately mine is a 2008 model and has the big fat "fill tank here" port that has been in use for over a long time.

Welcome to the club, someone will answer your question correctly, and if they haven't, when I pick up my rig from the dealer Thursday, they have 2 new ones on the lot and I will ask my dealer.

Sally forth and enjoy.

Thanks for your Welcome and reply. Knowing FR / CC , it will most likely be something simple; but.......

Hi Guys:
Welcome to the club and look forward to meeting you at a rally.

The fresh water fill is next to the city water connection (on my 36RE) inside the aft double door on the drivers side. Having said that, they may have changed the configuration and perhaps it has been moved. The last time I talked to a factory rep, I mentioned that they might consider having one fresh water connection and a valve to allow filling the tank and/or using water direct from the water source. Maybe they did that?

Hope you have good luck and really enjoy your CC. Peggy and I love ours.

Oh yeah...I think we're going to REALLY like it....have replaced the lights above the TV to more Deb's liking (4" round with alabaster glass lens) and put On-Off/ Dimmers on the 12 volt Main Ceiling lights and Bedroom lights (me).
I'll let you know if you're the guy that had 'em make the change on the Water Fill !

Welcome from the Middle of Kansas as well. I've not seen any Creek or DD with the setup you describe, however, another brand built close by has a similar setup, and yes, you simply move the switch over from 'city' to (in their case), onboard water. They caution to relieve the water pressure first (i.e. turn off the outside spigot, turn on a faucet inside and let the pressure run down); then move the switch over to fill your tank. On theirs, there is an 'overflow' that tells you when the tank is full -- the reason I learned about it is that that I towed the trailer for a friend over to the factory to have them look at it -- seems that the overflow was installed too low and would syphon the water out of the tank once it started running  ...

Best wishes on many happy camping trips with the new coach.

Well Mr. Dick ( dickhix1)....you get the prize.

Decided to get the new coach ready for a tip to Goshen next Saturday and de-winterized the unit. After pumpimg out all the pink-stuff from the water lines, took a chance and switched the "City" / Gravity" lever next to the Fresh water hose connection to the Gravity position- then VERY SLOWLY opened the shut-off on the end the garden hose.
Guess What ?????.....within no time water was coming out of the Fresh Water Tank Empty valve ( under the Main Slide). Closed the pitcock and don't you know...soon I had 2/3rd's of a Tank.
Like Skypilot said, it looks like CC is using a near top-mounted fitting for the air vent / overflow - I can't think of anything else the White Hose running down with the Empty Tank fitting would be.....but I didn't fill it that far.

Thanks to all....

Hi Guys,

I am new to the club also. Have a new 36CKTS that was built in November 2009. My unit has the city / fresh water hook up just like you described. One hook up for the hose and a lever that is labeled for "Gravity" to fill the fresh water tank or turn it 90 degrees for city water. Word of caution, do NOT put it in the "Gravity" position and leave it unattended if the water is turned on or if you want to use "City" water, make sure the lever is turned to "City" water, otherwise the fresh water tank will overfill and expand like a rubber glove that you would blow up with air and things will break. I found out first hand on my first day out with my new CC.

Good luck and happy travels.

I could not understand the simple diagram either so I looked behind the panel and put together my own diagram. Hope this helps others too.
